Google Chrome to Distrust Entrust Certificates

28 June, 2024 - On 27th June, 2024, Google's Chrome Security Team announced that it would no longer trust TLS certificates issued by Entrust after October 31, 2024.

What happened to Entrust?

A few months before, Entrust had admitted to mis-issuing more than 26,000 EV TLS certificates.

To be trusted by a browser, a certificate authority must comply with specific requirements defined by the CA/Browser Forum. The revocation timeline for mis-issued certificates outlined in the CA/B Forum's Baseline Requirements is very short - either 24 hours or five days, depending on the nature of the problem.

However, Entrust made no moves to revoke or replace the affected certificates.

Google ultimately made the decision to revoke its trust of Entrust on the Chrome browser.
